International Clients
Merger of two group companies
The business change requirements were significant across both organizations and ensuring a swift and well managed merger between the organizations was key in maintaining high levels of customer service throughout the process. CMG was asked to assist with the planning and execution of these business change activities specifically to undertake an infrastructure review of both companies IT networks and systems and make recommendations; Plan and manage the migration of data into a single finance, customer and order management system; Develop and implement a new organization structure; Develop a staff communication and training programme; Plan and manage the physical relocation of staff.
Warehouse Management System replacement
Our client was setting out to replace its core systems with a set of applications that offer both the functionality and technical capability needed to improve current business operations and enable significant growth. A review of current business processes and applications identified that there are several key business areas where process support is deficient. In particular our client’s existing warehouse management system was not stable, did not offer all of the functionality required to operate to maximum efficiency. CMG was engaged to lead the work to implement a new warehouse management system.
Operating Model project
CMG was part of a team driving the documentation of processes across our client’s international grocery and general merchandising retail chain. The final deliverable was a famework for eastablishing operations and training abroad.
Supplier Surveys
CMG launched the Supplier Surveys in 2005 for our client, an international retailer. The surveys continue to provide our client withunrivalled insight into their supplier group. The most recent survey went live in March 2009 across 14 countries in local languages. Other surveys completed include UK farmers supplying produce to our client, and Buying team surveys across Central Europe.
Group Commercial strategy
CMG worked with the Group Commercial Director to create a structure to deliver the Group Commercial Strategy with his team that is currently delivering benefits of several billion.

European Clients
International Wholesale Project
CMG was engaged to identify the systems that the International Wholesale SOlution would need to integrate across Europe with for Nordic Wholesale, CE Wholesale, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey & UK Sourcing. CMG defined the “as is” processes from “purchase to pay” for each of these entities and then identified what would be necessary to create the standard operating model across the group and defined the necessary areas of variation.
Pan-European systems change project
CMG’s role was to supply business analysis support, project management and meetings faciliation for the current “Quick Wins” process plus business analysis and project management resource for ad-hoc business investigations that were requested by our client.
Systems replacement
Our client operated approximately 500 stores throughout the UK, Eire and Benelux. The company had grown rapidly both organically and by tactical acquisition. The Board took a strategic decision to invest in a major replacement programme which in simple terms involved SAP becoming the core central finance, procurement, budgeting/forecasting and reporting tool and MBS Navision being the standard store system. CMG was asked to review specific areas of the SAP implementation programme and MBS Navision store system programme. This assisted with improving the management and quality of the programme. The project was delivered successfully and won an award.
UK Clients
Business systems strategy
CMG developed business systems strategy and requirements for all aspects of customer relationship management (from call centres to marketing) for this Government funded energy enterprise.
Service proposition
Our client wished to significantly improve its customer service proposition. CMG was engaged to help identify the root causes of the issues that customer’s experience and to make recommendations for change by process mapping and reviewing five key proceses and, in tandem with that, the financial and commercial situation of the business. (1) Staffing: Getting the right service staff onto the right train at the right time. (2) Supply Chain: Getting the right products onto the right train at the right time. (3) Rolling Stock Planning: Getting the right size train with the right equipment t the right platform for the right journey at the right time. (4) Maintenance: Ensuring that the right kit is on the right train and that maintenance is scheduled and managed in a way that ensures it is always working. (5) Hospitality Management: Ensuring that the customer experience oat stations and on board is proactive and efficient.
SAP implementation review
CMG undertook a review of a SAP implementation for our client andmobilised a business wide change programme to facilitate an increase in sales and reduction in costs.
Business rationalization programme
CMG managed a business change programme that rationalized the business from 15 businesses into 4 regions. Additionally CMG developed the IT Strategy and led a business change programme that rationalized acquired businesses and delivered significant bottom line benefits in addition CMG analysed volume problems in the supply chain of a leaflets distribution business.
Business Architecture Model
CMG defined a Business Architecture model for our client and developed the skills of the clients management team by running a series of workshops over a three week period to work through the Business Architecture. Attendees were key managers from the business; Challenging the current methods of operation against external and internal leading practice; Involving the client team fully in the preparation, running and documentation of the workshops.
E-Commerce
IT Application review
Our client, an e-commerce retailer had grown organically and developed the systems that it has needed to operate in a reactive and cost-effective way. However, the company was setting out to step-change it’s size and breadth of offer. The objective of the project was to review our client’s applications to identify whether the exisiting technologies would support the delivery of the customer proposition as the business grows. In addition, some areas of the applications were not currently meeting user and customer requirements. The proposition is to ensure that products are available, easy for customers to find and delivered efficiently without cancellations or delays.
Setting up a Programme Office
Our client had several IT initiatives currently underway or planned to start in 2008. In order to ensure control over these projects as well as a common approach to key project activities such as status reporting, issue management etc. the IT department engaged CMG to establish a programme office capability. The deliverable was a programme office toolkit and supporting procedures for the following:
